A guide to surviving NYC for the age 70+ visiting parents, relatives and family friends

  1. Watch for bikes not cars

  2. Do not walk through puddles

  3. You will walk slower, walk on the right

  4. You can jaywalk (lookout for bikes)

  5. Have Apple Pay enabled before you arrive

  6. If a restaurant is packed and you don’t have reservations pick another restaurant (or make a resy for the next day)

  7. Lookout for dog poop (again no puddles)

  8. Don’t stare at people on subway (mind your business)

  9. Buy broadway tickets at the theater (yes I know you like to plan 8/10 times you will be ok day of, chill)

  10. Yes Katz is cool, just know it’s a large sandwich and dinner is basically not happening.

  11. Bring a smaller purse

  12. If you are visiting a family member’s apartment, take off your shoes 👟 👠 (remember puddles)

  13. Make sure to always use the restroom when one is available

  14. Make sure to drink adequate water

  15. Be alert to your surroundings at all times

  16. Unless you call it ahead of time, we are splitting the check (regardless of what you order)
